Senior Buyer

The Senior Buyer reports to the Director of Strategic Operations and is responsible for working closely with category management and other stakeholders to provide support where required. The Senior Buyer will take a lead/primary role in the initiatives around the category management team and will be expected to contribute to strategies around the development of buying systems and inventory management. Responsibilities include: inventory analysis, database management (Global Till, Sage X3, and similar), ensuring timely arrival of product, while maintaining data integrity in the point of sale system.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Lead role in purchasing and maintenance of systemwide cannabis inventory
  • Maintenance of Global Till database
  • Execute weekly/daily forecast analytics & provide insight on forecast variance, potential promotional product, while identifying growth opportunities
  • Build weekly forecasts for both retail and wholesale cannabis channels
  • Execute cannabis orders
  • Proactively communicate with internal and external stakeholders in a timely manner
  • Ensure supplier and product specification and pricing database is up to date and current
  • Support negotiations where requested
  • Pro-actively identify and resolve problems while making decisions related to balancing supply/demand, inventory levels, capacities and customer fulfillment
  • Coordinate the movement of inventory items when required
  • Recommend and deliver improvements to the supply planning and supply chain execution processes
  • Work closely with compliance team to ensure efficient delivery of federal reporting
  • Support with process related to new store openings
  • Support other supply chain/category management initiatives where requested

Qualifications, Skills & Experience:

  • Advanced Excel skills (test will be required)
  • 5-7 years of progressive experience in a purchasing or supply chain role
  • Strong track record of meeting inventory management targets
  • Ability to support with training other team members
  • Experience in purchasing in cannabis, pharmaceuticals, beverage alcohol or other regulated industry is an asset
  • Seamless verbal and written communication with both internal and external stakeholders
  • Ability to maintain and develop professional working relationships with vendors, suppliers and colleagues
  • Proficiency using Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel)
  • Sound analytical thinking, planning, prioritization, and execution skills
  • Effective attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy
  • Excellent ability to identify process improvements
  • High level of initiative
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
  • Clean criminal background (criminal record check required)
