Construction Project Manager - Retail Tenant Improvements - Calgary

High Tide Inc. is seeking a Construction Project Manager - Retail Tenant Improvements, in Calgary, AB. Our organization is fast paced, growing, and highly successful in the cannabis retail space. As a Construction Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the successful execution of small-scale retail tenant improvement projects and minor upgrades. This role involves coordinating with clients, vendors, and subcontractors to ensure that projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Planning and Coordination:
    • Develop and manage project plans, including timelines, budgets, and resource allocation.
    • Coordinate with clients to understand their needs, preferences, and expectations for tenant improvements and upgrades.
    • Review and approve design plans and specifications, ensuring they meet client requirements and regulatory standards.

  2. Budget and Financial Oversight:
    • Prepare detailed cost estimates and manage project budgets.
    • Track expenses and ensure that the project stays within financial constraints.
    • Review and approve invoices and change orders.

  3. Project Execution:
    • Oversee the day-to-day operations of construction projects, including scheduling, resource management, and quality control.
    • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry best practices.
    • Address and resolve any issues or conflicts that arise during the project.

  4. Client Communication:
    • Maintain regular communication with clients to provide updates on project progress and address any concerns or changes.
    • Manage client expectations and ensure high levels of satisfaction with the final outcome.

  5. Team Management:
    • Supervise and coordinate the efforts of project teams, including subcontractors and internal staff.
    • Foster a collaborative and productive work environment.

  6. Documentation and Reporting:
    • Maintain accurate project documentation, including contracts, change orders, and progress reports.
    • Prepare and present project status reports to stakeholders.

A day in the life:

  • Coordinate and oversee all construction at various sites and existing stores, ensuring they are completed on time, within budget, and meet company standards and regulations.
  • Carry out inspections of construction sites, ensuring they are healthy and safe for all workers and comply with industry codes and standards.
  • Provide employees with the necessary tools, equipment, and materials to complete their tasks efficiently.
  • Supervise and coordinate the daily work of contractors, vendors, and internal staff members.
  • Ensure the quality of work adheres to industry standards and meets the client’s and company’s expectations.
  • Conduct regular status meetings with construction teams, communicate the project timeline and any potential issues that may arise.
  • Work closely with architects, engineers, and vendors to understand project requirements and ensure projects are completed on schedule and within the allocated budget.
  • Develop and manage budgets, prepare schedules for project deadlines, and monitor expenses.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience.
  • Strong understanding of construction processes, project management principles, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with project management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
  • Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, LEED) are a plus.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role. 
  • Strong knowledge of construction materials, methods, and tools, including HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and carpentry.
  • Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills, able to build strong relationships with contractors, employees, and clients.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience, able to lead and guide a team.
  • Knowledgeable in project management methodologies such as Agile, Scrum, etc.
  • Must have excellent problem-solving skills, able to troubleshoot and develop solutions to any construction or maintenance issues that may arise in the project.
  • Knowledge of local, provincial, and federal workplace compliance regulations, ordinances and legislation considered a strong asset.
  • Working knowledge of environmental safeguards and alarm systems, considered a strong asset.
  • First Aid skills and/or certificates are considered assets.
  • Must have a valid driving license.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Safety equipment will be required, e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses, etc.
  • Flexible hours as required
  • Will be required to travel across Canada as needed (up to 10% or more)
  • Work both indoors and outdoors
  • Will be exposed to construction sites
